Odessa is a census-designated place located partially in Pasco County, Florida and partially in Hillsborough County, Florida . As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,173.
History
Odessa has a rich and varied history. Originally, there was a huge sawmill in the area that employed many. The railroad came through the area as well. Most of the original homes and buildings are no longer there.
There are many families who have lived in the area for generations. Some are buried in the cemetery at Keystone United Methodist Church on Race Track Road.
The area is rapidly being swallowed up by development as Tampa expands and needs more bedroom communities to house people.

Odessa is located at 28°11'0" North, 82°34'6" West (28.183446, -82.568456) GR1 .
It straddles northwest Hillsborough County, Florida and Pasco County, Florida . It merges into and overlaps an area known as Keystone , named for the large lake of the same name. The mailing area that uses the city of Odessa stretches south to South Mobley Road and north past State Road 54.
According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 14.6 km² (5.6 mi² ). 13.7 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.04% water.
Demographics
As of the census GR2 of 2000 , there are 3,173 people, 1,181 households, and 896 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 231.2/km² (598.9/mi²). There are 1,272 housing units at an average density of 92.7/km² (240.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.93% White , 0.66% African American , 0.57% Native American , 0.72% Asian , 0.03% Pacific Islander , 0.91% from other races , and 1.17% from two or more races. 6.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,181 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.04.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 108.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.8 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $45,864, and the median income for a family is $55,461. Males have a median income of $38,992 versus $26,818 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $21,548. 6.7% of the population and 3.7% of families are below the poverty line . Out of the total population, 10.4% of those under the age of 18 and 11.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
