Safety Harbor, Florida is a small town with only around 17,500 residents. This city had lots of small town charm, history, and is home to the world famous Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. Safety Harbor was first inhabited by the Indians with evidence dating as far back as 1500 to 1700 A.D. In the 16th century, Spanish explorers arrived to stake their claim and at the turn of the century, visitors were drawn here toSafety Harbor, otherwise known as "Where Healing Waters Flow". You must visit the downtown area of Safety Harbor for your local shopping and treats. There are some very good lunch spots right on the main street. You can park your car anywhere, take a walk around downtown shops, walk over to Safety Harbor Spa, and have a picnic or sit down to relax by the harbor. Check out Phillippe Park, which is located right on the shores of Old Tampa Bay.
If you go behind shelter #2 at Phillippe Park, you can climb to the top of an ancient Indian Mound. Alligator Lake, Mullet Creek, Alligator Creek, Espiritu Santo Church and Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History are a few other places to see and enjoy.

The city of Safety Harbor Florida has outstanding activities and amenities for you and your family to enjoy. Safety Harbors center for recreation puts out a quarterly leisure services schedule which provides a current list of programs. There are numerous community organizations and an active Chamber of Commerce in Safety Harbor. The Safety Harbor Public Library is a great source of information, family reading and fun with over 15,000 sqft. Downtown Safety Harbor provides beautiful waterfront views by the city Marina on Bayshore Blvd. Annual festivals are held in downtown Safety Harbor right on Main Street in which they close the main strip for these special events. Ruth Eckerd Hall is located in Safety Harbor, this wonderful theater hosts cultural events with touring orchestras, dance companies and musical performers all year long. The Safety Harbor Museum, located at 329 South Bayshore Blvd. contains many exhibits for you to discover. There are great historical exhibits ranging from the Dinosaur Age to the 1920s.

Safety Harbor Florida is located northeast of Clearwater and South of Palm Harbor and sits right on Old Tampa Bay. It is a very easy commute to Clearwater, St. Petersburg or Tampa. Safety Harbor Dining and Shopping
Downtown Safety Harbor on Main Street has a great variety of shopping. Safety Harbor stores vary from antique shops to boutiques to unique art studios and more. Safety Harbor does not have a large shopping mall but the closest mall is only a 10 Minute Drive. There are many shopping malls right outside the city of Safety Harbor. Westfield Countryside Mall in Clearwater, Westfield citrus Park Mall in Tampa and Gulf View Square Mall in Port Richey are all only 10 to 25 minutes away. Safety Harbor does have many shopping centers throughout downtown and all around the Safety Harbor area.
Safety Harbor Florida offers a wide variety of restaurants. Keeping in the feeling of that small town community, Safety Harbor's restaurants are very quaint inside. In every restaurant you will find friendly faces and excellent service. Some of my favorite Safety Harbor restaurants are the Paradise restaurant, for a classic diner lunch, and Athens restaurant, for a delicious treat. Just take a stroll down the Safety Harbor's main street and you will pass by at least five delicious restaurants. Some of the restaurants offer a patio seating for you to enjoy the downtown atmosphere in the spring and fall weather.
