Thinking About Moving to St. Petersburg, Florida

The community of St. Petersburg is very unique. With such a wide variety of communities, all with their own unique charm, benefits and style, it makes deciding on a home and neighborhood extremely difficult. The different living styles is wide ranging with beach living, luxury beach homes, condos, town homes historic homes and new homes. With the wide variety of choices it can be difficult to decide which neighborhood is right for you and your family. Whether your currently living in St.Pete or your planning to relocate here, our St. Petersburg Realtors can recommend neighborhoods based on your needs. Some of the offering you might want to think of living near are parks, beaches, golf courses, malls, museums. We can also help you pick you neighborhood based on the quality of schools in the neighborhood, size of the home, location and price range.

Saint Petersburg real estate has made a complete one-eighty, in terms of pricing. In the last 10 years, real estate has steadily headed upward and shows no sign of slowing in the short term. A big factor in this is that people are moving to St.Pete daily and a lot of northerners are retiring to Florida. This trend is severely effecting supply of homes for sale, which is causing St. Pete real estate to rise in value faster then the surrounding cities.

St. Pete is the the 4th largest city in Florida. As of 2004 the city had over 250,000 residents, and as of 2006 the city has grown significantly. Having such a close proximity to Tampa, a lot of people relocating to Tampa, end up choosing to live in St .Petersburg and make the daily commute. If living in a Condo or a luxury home on the Gulf is a desire, then the Tampa-St.Pete commute is a top pick and recommendation from us. We are also home to Eckerd College, St. Petersburg College, University of South Florida St. Petersburg, and Stetson University College of Law. A lot of students at both colleges usually choose to purchase a small home or rent an apartment.

Interesting Info: St.Pete was founded in 1892 by two men, one was from Russia and that is how St. Petersburg was named. He named it after his birthplace St .Petersburg Russia.

Parks and Recreation

Like most of the towns in Pinellas, Saint Petersburg offers a huge variety of recreation facilities and parks. As of 2006 there is over 2,300 Acres of parks, which include some award winners. We are proud to be the home to Sunken Gardens, Boyd Hill Nature Preserve and the new Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center and Dell Holmes Park.

Great Beach Shot We also offer a plethora of children playgrounds, dog parks, fitness trails, public beaches, sports field for soccer, baseball, football, volleyball and more. There are also public swimming pool to help you make it thru the sunny summers. With over 150 around the city, finding something to do on the weekend is never a difficult task.

Attractions and Entertainment

Now to the fun stuff. St.Pete is one of my favorite cities in Florida because of the wide range of things to do. One of the most popular spots in town is the Saint Petersburg Pier. Here you will find one of the biggest piers in the world. It alone is a site to see. The pier is so long, that they offer a free trolley to the main building. Inside the main tower you will find The Columbia Restaurant, a large floor for sightseeing with high powered binoculars to help spot dolphins and birds. There is also a nice variety of shopping offered here as well as casual dining.
St. Pete Pier

We also have the Salvador Dali Museum which is the largest collection of the famous artists work inside the United States. We also have a Holocaust Museum History Museum and a Museum of Fine Arts.

Then there is the Baywalk. I'm a big movie and shopping fan, so I have been to Baywalk too many times to say. The movie theater here is second to none. It has 20 theaters and the sound system is stellar. There is also a great science museum called Great Explorations. I grew up going to this, and if you have children or grandchildren, I highly recommend it.

One of the best parts of being a medium to large sized city is the sports. We are the proud home of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It is a common misconception that the Devil Rays are located in Tampa, they are actually in St. Pete. There is nothing better then going to a great baseball game in downtown St.Pete and then taking a nice tour of the city.

As you can see, there is so much to do in the city, you should never be bored. And with the beaches and the year round sunny weather, being bored is almost impossible.

St. Petersburg Home Values

Like other local cities there is a wide range of home styles and types to choose from. The Real estate market is great for the high and low end of the spectrum. You will find a nice selection of homes in the lower $150,000 to $200,000 homes. Typical homes for sale in this price bracket are 2 bedroom and 2 bath, along with some 3 bed/2 bath homes.. A large majority of these homes where built in the 60's and 70's but older homes as well as some new homes and condos can be found as well.

If you are in the $250,000 to $350,000 price range, your selection is very nice. The standard "family home" is found in this price range. Homes in this range come standard with a inground pool and 2 car garage. Lots are usually average sized so you will not be crowded by a neighbor.

Looking for a beach home or an executive home on the beach or a golf course? Well plan on spending $500,000 and as much as $10,000,000. If you want to live on the Gulf of Mexico you will be spending $1 million and up. Even Condos reach the into the millions. But the views and beaches are worth it. Million dollar Saint Petersburg real estate is not uncommon, and there are usually multiple luxury homes for sale.
